Based on our rating system, William Hill Casino scores 81% which could be described as ‘very good’. The site offers everything a player needs, but leaves plenty of room for improvements. Below we’ll share our detailed findings in a table, before we discuss our first impressions, what we liked and didn’t like.

Our First Impressions

William Hill has a very good website, but lacks certain aspects that would make it excellent or perfect. Truth be told, most of our criticisms are a matter of taste and not more than small inconveniences, but on the other hand, there are a few things that stand out in a negative way. 

The website design itself leaves room for improvement. Its current design is so white and bright that we can imagine players prefer any other site as it will be easier on the eyes. When accessing the help section you are greeted by a banner that has a 90s feel to it, and the actual content has a different font that doesn’t match the rest of the page – it looks like the standard Microsoft Office layout was simply copy-pasted. Although the information is good, this presentation looks very unprofessional.

What We Liked

• Ease of Use: All things considered, William Hill Vegas Casino is a very good site if you want to start playing quickly and easily. The main categories of games are conveniently shown on the left side of your screen and have pull down menus with several sub-categories. So if you are just  looking for ‘New’ or ‘Popular Slots’ for example, you could start playing in as little as three clicks. Looking for a specific game? Then the search option is an outcome, although it seems to limit the number of results to a maximum of 50.
• Information About Each Game: What we also like is the fact that every game has a little information button on it, that when clicked shows a handy summary of the game info including the type of game, the provider and its features, although it would be nice if they’d add extra info such as the RTP and hit rate.
• Variety of Games: Finally the William Hill Live Casino has a varied offering with many different types of games to choose from, and especially their Live Casino section is great with more than 100 games in ten sub-categories which include all the typical table games such as Blackjack and Roulette, but also over 35 different Game Shows.

What we disliked 

• Website is a Bit Dated: What prevents us from calling casino William Hill an excellent or perfect site is that there are many small things that could, or maybe should, be better. Not only is the site very white and bright, the opposite of the typical casino atmosphere, the used font is quite small and the site doesn’t scale well on a PC – you’ll always see white bars at the side, unless you zoom in/magnify the page.
• Games Missing from Categories: From a practical player’s perspective there are a few other aspects about William Hill’s online casino which are not optimal. Not all games can be found in the available (sub) menus. For example, browsing all the games in the available sub-categories, we counted only 12 Megaways games, but when using the search option, we found 50. On the other hand, the categories overlap: a game that is new, popular and exclusive at the same time, will show in those three sections. 
• No Option to Show All Games: Finally, the biggest miss is the lack of a ‘show all games’ option for most categories. You can either pick one of the listed slots, or search for a specific title via the search option, but simply browsing their entire catalog to discover new games you might want to try isn’t possible.

As is common in the online gambling world, William Hill continuously offers various promotions, including regular William Hill Casino bonus offers to attract new or reward existing players. Such offers are always a nice way to extend your budget and play time, but be aware of the specific terms and conditions that apply. More often than not, offers are not as good as they seem at first glance.

Although this bonus might seem interesting as it requires no deposit, the wagering requirement makes it practically impossible to win: it is a high-risk, low-reward promotion. However, 200 free spins means about 10 minutes free play-time and, however small, there’s always the chance to win that £25.

Of course William Hill continuously offers other promotions such as Free Spins on selected games. All you have to do to take part is to opt-in.

These offers usually have fewer restrictions than the welcome bonus, but there are still some:

Although there is more than enough to choose from, compared to other casinos that offer more than 1000 games their offering is limited.

Due to the design of their website it is difficult to determine the exact number of slots offered, but there are dozens and we can assure you that their selection is big enough to always find something of your liking. Their selection includes over 50 Megaways games and over 50 Jackpot slots. Note that the best way to find these games is via the search option, as the categories don’t show all of them, for example, in the category Megaways, only 12 are listed, although they offer many more.

If you are specifically looking for slots with Progressive Jackpots, William Hill doesn’t disappoint, we counted almost twenty different ones, which includes the famous Mega Moolah with a jackpot that is usually in the multiple millions. 

Table Games & Poker

When talking about casinos the first games people will think of are iconic games such as Blackjack, Roulette and Poker, in other words: table games. However table games can be split into two main categories: ‘video’ or ‘RNG’ on one hand, and Live Games on the other. 

The first type of games are games that you play against a computer: the outcome is determined by a Random Number Generator, and the second type are games you play in the Live Casino with a real dealer. 

William Hill offers both versions of most table games, although their focus lies on Live Casino where their offering is about tens times larger than the RNG games.

Live Dealer Games

Live Casino seems to be the main focus of William Hill. They’ve teamed up with the best providers: Evolution, Playtech and Pragmatic and their offering is enormous including:

Note that in the Live Casino category they also include the sub-category ‘Virtual’ games. Although these games are designed to give you a 3D experience, they actually are RNG games, not games with a real human dealer.

Although William Hill is compliant with the regulations from the UK Gambling Commission and on their main page they state that they are “committed to supporting Responsible Gaming”, they have put this information in the footer all the way at the bottom of the homepage. Here it is hard to find and few people will ever notice it. 

Giving Safer Gambling a more prominent place on their site and adding more options to set limits would have taken very little effort. Not doing so must have been a deliberate choice and for this reason we see their ‘commitment to Responsible Gaming’ as greenwashing. That being said, the information they provide in the Safer Gambling section of their website is short but comprehensive.

Limits and Safer Gambling Tools

William Hill Vegas Casino offers the following Safer Gambling tools:

• Product Blocking – block specific products such as Gaming, Poker and Bingo
• Session Time Reminders – help you track how long you’ve been playing
• Time Out – block access for a shorter period of time
• Self Exclusion – block access for a longer period of time.

Unfortunately William Hill doesn’t offer session-limits or loss-limits, which could further help players to prevent spending too much time or money on gambling. We also couldn’t find a self-test that could help you to identify problematic gambling behaviour as early as possible.

William Hill’s KYC Process Explained

KYC stands for ‘Know Your Customer’ and means that companies have to verify who they are dealing with to comply with several rules and regulations, first and foremost those that help to prevent fraud and money laundering. 

The process itself is straightforward: you simply provide the documents you are asked for when you are asked to do so so they can be verified. If you fail to do so, you will not be able to withdraw any funds from your account and if you upload them too late, your account might be temporarily suspended.

Player Experience at William Hill

When it comes to player experience it is very hard to find reliable data. We will of course visit casinos ourselves, but our perspective as professionals in the iGaming industry is different from that of the average player. 

What complicates the matter is that players generally only provide feedback when they are emotional: they will either have won or lost big, or are having problems with their withdrawals, which is almost always due to the KYC procedures we’ve discussed earlier. For this reason it goes without saying that the negative stories will always have the upper hand.

In the case of William Hill this is clearly supported by their current rating of 1.3 stars on Trustpilot based on more than 6000 reviews. If you have a closer look you will see that the vast majority of the 1 star reviews are players that have lost and accuse the casino of being a scam, or players that are not aware of the strict KYC regulations and feel that they are treated unfairly when their withdrawals are withheld.

Despite the low average score, we do want to point out that 20% of the reviewers did leave a 5 star rating. These experiences show a more realistic picture, however, we must make sure to ignore those of people who are only happy because they won.

Desktop and Mobile Performance

User experiences with the website and the dedicated William Hill Vegas Casino app, are generally positive, as is shown by the ratings of their apps in both the Play Store (4.1 Stars) and App Store (4.5 Stars). 

All we can say from our experience is that everything works as it should and the only criticisms are related to personal preferences and not the functioning of the app or website.

Player Support and Service

With regards to customer support, we found mixed results, as is to be expected. People losing or having to wait on their withdrawal due to verification issues are understandably negative. 

Our own experience with support is that the biggest drawback is the limited options you have as a player: you have a choice between X (Twitter) and Live Chat. We don’t consider X a real option, as one should not discuss sensitive information in public or on a third party platform.

When using Live Chat you first have to deal with an AI Chatbot that gives you the experience you’d expect. Simple questions, to which you could easily find the answer yourself in the extensive help section of their website, are not a problem, but for anything else you’d want to speak to a real human. Luckily this isn’t too difficult, you just repeatedly mention you want to speak to a person. The waiting times are generally short and then you can at least speak to a real person.

When we contacted support with some simple questions about limits that should be easy to understand and answer, we had mixed experiences. First of all the chatbot made it seem that even lowering your deposit limit would require a confirmation after 24 hours before it goes into effect, when in reality this only is the case for increasing limits. 

When talking to human agents, some quickly and correctly answered the question and even gave some helpful extra tips, whilst others took over 10 minutes to copy and paste answers that weren’t even 100% related to our question.

Most people will find everything they could want from an online casino and will have no problems navigating the site or their app. William Hill is reputable with a long history, has a solid game selection and everything just works as it should.
