How to Play Marching Legions Slot Demo

Marching Legions has a straightforward 5 x 3 game grid and offers 243 ways to win. In simple terms that means that it doesn’t have traditional paylines. In order to get a winning combination you need to land matching symbols from the leftmost reel consecutively, regardless of their position. We’ll take a look at the bonus features in more detail, but for now let’s go through how to play a basic round.

Step-by-Step Gameplay

• Search for Marching Legions in the games library of your online casino. (See below for which of the UK’s best slot sites have the game)
• Select your bet level ranging between £0.10 and £5.00. You do this by adjusting the + and – buttons either side of the bet button.
• Hit the spin button and wait to see where the symbols land.
• Winning combinations are formed when at least 3 matching symbols land on the board from the left reel. The highest paying symbol only needs 2 for a win. 
• If you land a stack of marching legionnaires on the screen, then the Respin feature will start and will continue until no more stacked soldiers are on the board.
• When the round is over, the game will automatically add wins to your account balance.

Respin Feature

At any point in the base game, you can land a stacked reel of legionnaire soldiers on the board. This can appear in any of the five reels and when it does, it triggers the Repin Feature. The legionary stacks then march one step to the left before every re-spin. In effect these are free spins and you can continue landing wins until they march off the grid. See below image of one stack of legionnaires marching across the game grid.

If, at any point during the Re-spins, you land another stack of soldiers, then they will start marching to the left as well. The Respins continue until all of the legionary stacks have left the board. The great news for players is that this can go for quite a while! When I played I had four legionary stacks land during the round so I ended up with around 14 Respins in a row. All the while I was collecting wins without having to spend any of my own money on spinning.

Nudge Feature

If you land two partial stacks on the reels at any point, the nudge feature can come into play. Basically, the nudge feature transforms a partial stack into a full stack to trigger the Respin feature. The nudge feature will not trigger if only one partial stack lands on the grid or if a full stack is on the screen already.

Free Games

Now, here’s one of the issues I have with Marching Legions. The free games feature is incredible, but triggering it feels almost as hard as going into battle yourself! You can’t trigger free games randomly, it has to be earned. 

At the top of the game board is a collect meter that looks similar to a rosette. The meter has five levels, each with several wedges. Every time a legionary stack leaves the game board, one of those small wedges is filled. When all wedges are filled, you move onto the next level.

To trigger free spins you need to complete all five levels of the meter, which corresponds to 330 stacked legions!  In my opinion, this is a big ask and actually feels quite demotivating as a player. However, if you can trigger it, it can be highly impressive.

The Free Games come in waves of stacked legionnaire soldiers. In Wave 1, you get one stack, in Wave 2, you get 2 stacks and so on up to Wave 5 where the grid is full of soldiers. Stacks start from the rightmost reel and march along the grid, but the waves aren’t guaranteed. In order to trigger another wave you need to get three trumpets in Reel 5 before the stacks leave the grid. 

The image below is just from Wave 1. The stacked reel reached the leftmost reel but almost a full screen of soldiers landed on the grid for a nice payout. Meanwhile, I’d also landed three trumpets to set up Wave 2, which you can see on the meter at the top left. On the right of the screen you can see 2 stacks of soldiers waiting to enter the board.

I’ve never been lucky enough to reach Wave 5 yet, but I have reached Wave 4 and it was SO much fun! This can give some really nice payouts too!

Marching Legions RTP and Volatility

The 98.12% RTP is highly attractive to casino players and is way above the online slot average of 96%. It means, theoretically, players will get £98.12 back for every £100 staked. Of course this is an average return and comes with no guarantee for individual players. However it is one of the highest RTP slots in UK gaming so that’s worth considering.

Our Final Thoughts on Marching Legions

There’s a lot to like about this game, particularly the high RTP, theming, 3D visuals and creative bonus rounds. It’s nice to play a slot that looks and plays differently to the huge deluge of online games that follow the same blueprint. However, it is a little one dimensional with all of the features focused on the legionary stacks. And the free spins take an age to trigger. But, overall, I enjoyed playing Marching Legions and I would definitely recommend utilising the slot demo to try it out for yourself.
