If you love a bit of spookiness in your slots, then you’re going to enjoy this new gothic-themed game by Pragmatic Play. Haunted Crypt is dripping with eerie backdrops, scary characters and a haunting soundtrack. When I played it, I felt like I was watching a horror movie. Imagine all the monsters and ghouls you really don’t want to bump into on a dark street, and you have the idea.
Vampires, ghosts, skulls and a random out-of-place alien type figure spill across the reels. The skeleton Wild might look scary but he’s really your friend, as he brings up to 10x multipliers in the base game. Interestingly, you can choose to play the game in two different modes – Value and Speed and each has their own backdrop and volatility setting. My favourite part, though, is the Free Spins Bonus with the Blood Red Moon Scatter symbol. Land that and Wild multipliers increase with every spin.

There are three main features on the Haunted Crypt slot demo, let’s delve in:
Value Mode/Speed Mode Feature
Quite unusually, Haunted Crypt offers players two different modes in the base game. Play in Value Mode and the game operates regular gameplay with no additional features or modifiers. Play in Speed Mode for the same bet size and it increases the chance to naturally hit the Free Spins bonus. However, the catch is, the resulting Free Spins will pay less on average.
It’s a bit of an odd quandary for players to make. In effect it’s offering you the opportunity to choose the volatility level. Value Mode is high volatility with less frequent payouts of higher values and Speed Mode is medium volatility with lower value payouts. It’s worth pointing out that the RTP remains the same in either mode so I suppose it’s just down to choice. I, personally, like to maximise wins so I preferred Value Mode.
Multiplying Wilds
In the base game, the Skeleton Wild can appear on reels 2, 3 and 4 and comes with multipliers 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x and 10x. When I was playing I hit a few high multipliers on low bets turning what would have been a low payout into some nice winnings. Better still, if you get a winning combination with two or more Skeleton Wilds, the multipliers add together.
Haunted Crypt Free Spins
Land three of the Blood Moon Scatter symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 to trigger 10 Free Spins. Any Skeleton Wild that hits leaves behind a frame in that position. For every subsequent spin a +1x multiplier is added to that frame. Landing multiple Wilds creates multiple frames all increasing by a +1x multiplier on each spin.
When a Wild lands anywhere on the screen, all of the frames transform into Wilds. All of the multipliers in each frame are then applied to any winning combinations that pass through them. This can result in huge wins on consecutive spins if the symbols land favourably. You can also retrigger a further 5 spins if you land another 3 Scatters at any point.
I managed to trigger the Free Spins and was a little underwhelmed on the first 8 spins, only landing one Wild. The multiplier was increasing but I wasn’t hitting any big wins. However, on the 9th spin a second Wild landed and I ended up with two really nice paying spins on the 9th and 10th games.
